

Betty A. Varner went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 25, 2020 in Madison, Mississippi. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday, August 31, 2020 at First Baptist Madison with a funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
Betty was born January 26, 1930 in Lamar County, Mississippi to the late Frank W. and Carrie M. Aultman. She was the last of nine children. She was a graduate of Sumrall High School and attended Mississippi College and the University of Southern Mississippi.
She was employed as secretary of Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi when she married Wyndell A. Varner of Laurel, Mississippi on September 2, 1956. After marriage, they lived in New Orleans, Louisiana for six years, two years in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and another year in New Orleans before moving to Jackson, Mississippi in 1965. She worked as a church secretary and kept children in her home before going to work in the Policyowner Service Department and Acturial Department at Lamar Life Insurance Company. She retired in 1993 after twenty years of service.
In 1995, she decided to return to work, which she did with Mostly Martha's Florist and Gift Shop in Ridgeland, Mississippi and continued until 2008 when she became ill.
Betty and Wyndell had built a home and moved into Northbay Subdivision Madison, Mississippi in 1989 where they lived until July 2017. At that time they moved into Sunnybrook Estates, Inc. in Madison, where they lived until her death.
Betty was an active member of First Baptist Madison for over 30 years where she had been a member of the Sanctuary Choir and a soloist for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Wyndell; children, Debbie V. Hilliard of Madison and J. Lane Varner (Judy) of Terry; granddaughters, Lindsey Hilliard of Madison, Sarah Phillips (Zack) of Madison, Hannah Graham (Knox) of Madison, and Faith McCarty (Austin) of Oxford; four great grandchildren all from Madison; six nieces; and four nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Madison, 2100 Main Street, Madison, Mississippi 39110.
