

Bettye Katherine Edwards, 71, died Tuesday March 19, 2013 in Jackson, MS after a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM Friday March 22, 2013 at St. Columb’s Episcopal Church in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday March 21 at Wright and Ferguson in Ridgeland and at 10 AM Friday at St. Columb’s. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Edwards was well known in the Jackson area for her theater and film work. She appeared in many local television commercials over the past several years and was very active as an actor at New Stage Theater. She had a particularly loyal following of fans who greatly admired her role as Sook in The Chimneyville Readers annual reading of Truman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory”, one of her favorite roles.
Mrs. Edwards is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Malcolm; her parents, Dewey D. Swor and Clara Long Swor; her brother Bill; her sisters Barbara Ann and Sheila; and her son, David. Bettye is survived by her sister Bobbye Dee; her son Jeff and his wife, Alicia; her son, Todd and his wife, Shelley; her five grandchildren, Adam, Tanner, Amy, Kenna, and Helena; her great-granddaughter, Isabell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
