Brenda Kay Allen, 71, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2025. Brenda was born on September 1, 1953, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to Dorothy and Henry Allen. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Deborah Jean Allen Schooler; and her brother-in-law, Edward Eugene Schooler. Brenda is survived by her two nephews, Joshua Schooler (Megan King) of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Wesley Schooler (Cassandra Jensen) of Sacramento, California; her great-nephew, Blake Wing; and her brand-new great-niece, Penelope Jean Schooler. She was a member of Old Town Wesley Church in Madison.
Brenda grew up in Vicksburg with her sister Debbie, and they remained close throughout both of their lives. She later moved to Madison, where she lived until her death. Brenda deeply loved her family and friends and treasured her two nephews, Josh and Wes. She enjoyed seeing their families grow, and she would join them for holidays and celebrations. Her favorite pastime was playing cards and bunko, and she would often travel back to Vicksburg to see friends and enjoy a few hands of cards.
Brenda was thrilled when her great-niece Penelope Jean Schooler (“Poppy”) was born in March of this year and when she was able to meet her in person this May. She could often be found, iPad in hand, showing pictures of the baby to the staff and residents at the Madison Home Place, where she lived. She passed away surrounded by her family. Brenda will be deeply missed.
