C. Lamar Simmons passed away March 21, 2018 at St. Dominic Hospital. He was 89 years old. Funeral services will be held at Parkway Funeral Home on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
Lamar was born in Jackson, MS on July 5, 1928 to Clifton and Dorothy Simmons. He spent many years in Jackson, MS before moving to the Ross Barnett Reservoir area in 1973. He served in the Army Air Corp as a dental technician and medical corpsman.
Lamar retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield as director of subscriber accounts. After 28 years, he began a new profession as account executive and vice-president of Service Printers Inc., a job which he loved. An avid golfer, he was one of the first members of Castlewoods Country Club as well as becoming a member of both Colonial Country Club and Bay Pointe Country Club. He had 3 holes-in-one during his lifetime of which he was very proud.
Lamar is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Thelma G. (Misty) Simmons, Brandon, MS; son Duke (Helen) Simmons, Brandon, MS; sister Florence “Sis” Griffith, Palm Harbor, FL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
