Camille Carrol Austin
June 12, 1920 – June 25, 2018
Camille Stegall Austin, age 98, died at home in Shavano Park, Texas, on Monday, June 25, 2018. Camie was born June 12, 1920 in Morton, Mississippi to Argie and Effie Stegall. She attended University of Southern Mississippi and graduated with a degree in Education. Camie returned to Morton and became an endearing mathematics teacher for the next thirty-five years, impacting literally hundreds of graduates of Morton High School. Camie then turned to a new “career”, marrying Oscar E. Austin of Jackson Mississippi where they lived for twenty-six years. Camie and Oscar were members of the First Baptist Church of Jackson where she was a mainstay of the Senior Choir. Camie and Oscar moved to San Antonio Texas as a retirement location. After her husband passed away in April 2001, she lived with her Step Son and his wife, Jeff and Beth Austin. Camie was closely involved in the lives of her nieces and nephew, Susan and Jack Keen, Elizabeth and Wayne Carleton, Duaine and Judy Moore, Carol and Larry Sistrunk, Jamie and Rodney Ayles. Survivors include her Step Children, Steve and Debbie Austin, Jeff and Beth Austin, Bruce and Cathy Austin, Missy Honn and all her nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters Erma Lee Moore and Audie Cooper and her nephew Duaine. Camie will be laid to rest at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to either Springfield Baptist Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
