Carlton Harrell Melton

Carlton received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in education from Mississippi State University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. His career was devoted to education: as an instructor, assistant principal and administrator. He retired as Dean of Vocational Technical Education at Mississippi Delta Community College in Morehead.

Carlton and his wife of forty years raised their two daughters in Greenwood where he served as Deacon at North Greenwood Baptist Church. Upon retirement Carlton and his wife moved to Madison. Carlton was an active member of his community and church. For many years, Carlton was president of Northbay Homeowners Association and a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Madison. He loved the reservoir and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family on the water.

One of Carlton’s most treasured places to spend time was his family farm in Holmes County. He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting deer in the fall and turkeys in the spring. Known as a man that could fix anything, Carlton always had a project and was willing to lend a hand when anyone needed help.

Carlton walked daily with the Lord. His stride was special and his determination was unwavering. Carlton was a devoted son and brother. He was proud of his daughters and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Carlton adored his wife and best friend, Dyan.

Carlton will forever be remembered as a man of integrity, who believed in hard work and always putting others before himself. Carlton was an amazing and remarkable man. His positive impact will leave a lasting legacy for all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Dyan Melton of Madison; two daughters, Marlana (Heath) Walters of Ridgeland and Amberlyn (Brent) Liles of Oxford; three grandchildren, Maris Melton Walters, Jason Heath Walters, Jr., and Chap Wilson Liles; his mother Frances Reid Melton of Holmes County, MS; and his sister, Lynn Melton Haynes of Flowood, MS; Carlton was preceded in death by his father, Charles Harrell Melton.
