

Carol Black Fry has now realized her dream. She has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Carol was born to Russell and Rita McSwain in New Orleans on November 29, 1931. She graduated from Sophie B. Wright High School for girls and went on to study at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. There, she met her first husband, William P. Black. They moved to Jackson, MS where Bill became an attorney and entered the insurance business.
Carol was active in volunteer work and church affairs. She was president of Methodist Rehab Auxillary in the early 1980’s. She taught children's Bible studies for twenty-five years and adult Bible studies for fifteen. She was active at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson, as well as a group leader in Explorer’s Bible Study for 5 years. She also became a tour guide and led many groups on trips to Europe and to destinations in the United States. Her yards demonstrated her love for gardening.
When her husband died she moved to Slidell, LA and met her second husband, Robert H. Fry. They entered a program to study for the ministry at Faith Church in New Orleans. Upon completion of their studies they were both ordained into the ministry and formed Campground ministries. They traveled throughout the nation providing spiritual guidance to campground residents. They also served churches in Brownsville, TX and Dubuque, IA. The highlight of her ministry was several mission trips to Mexico and China.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Bill. She also lost two sons, William P. Black, Jr. and Russell Hairston Black. Two brothers were also waiting in heaven to greet her arrival, Albert Charles McSwain and Aubrey Bernard McSwain. She is survived by her husband, Bob, and three daughters, Becky Ann Black Martin of Julian, CA, Noel Lee Black of Madison, MS, Laura Black McGraw of Brandon, MS, and step-daughter Rebecca Fry Hornsby of Murfreesboro, TN, and eight grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Russell McSwain of New Orleans and a sister, Patricia McSwain of Seattle, W A.
Visitation will be held today at 9:00 AM followed by a 10:00 AM Memorial Service all at Wright and Ferguson in Ridgeland. The family asks that donations be made to Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS in lieu of flowers.
