As a young boy growing up in Mississippi, Ed earned a special nickname by his family and became known by many as “Jibba”. This was no doubt a prelude to his special comedic talent of entertaining folks with telling stories and singing songs. He was also a self-taught general contractor; plumbing, roofing, and building houses from ground-up. You-name-it-and-he-could-build-it. Jibba loved hunting and fishing. He also had a special knack for producing outstanding vegetable gardens right up to the age of 91. Often, complete strangers driving by would see him “hoeing” his garden and throwing up his hand to wave at them. They couldn’t help but stop to admire and strike up a conversation with him about his beautiful garden. It wasn’t work to him, but pure love of fresh veggies in his plate.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Kimbrell; son, Estil Kimbrell; parents, Estel and Ruby Kimbrell; brother, Richard Kimbrell; and sisters, Aggie Robinson, Donnie Mae Kimbrell, Jo Jabour, and Jill Watson.
