Charles A. Scott, Jr. "Charlie Boy" went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 30, 2014. There will be a memorial service at Christ United Methodist Church on Monday, November 3, at 11 AM. Visitation will be from 9:45 AM to 10:45 prior to the memorial service. Reverend Rod Borders will officiate.
Charlie was born in Jackson, MS on January 7, 1944 to Charles A. Scott, Sr. and to Ester Lee Droke Scott. He was the grandson of Frank T. Scott and Effie Lee Galloway Scott and James L. Droke and Christine L. Droke all of Jackson, MS.
Charlie attended Duling Elementary, Bailey Jr. High and was graduated from Murrah High School, Class of 1962. He attended Ole Miss, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Millsaps College and a Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Charlie married Nancy Jackson of Columbia, MO. They had two sons, Frank Jackson Scott and Walter Droke Scott. Sadly, Charlie lost his son, Frank, in late September, 2014. Frank was just 48 years old. Walter is an Associate Professor at the University of Mississippi. Both sons were by their father's side as often as they could be during Charlie's almost two year battle with cancer.
After an early career as a real estate developer and home builder, Charlie went into social work. He focused on helping clients in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Charlie maintained a private practice, as well as serving as director of Life Mark Recovery in Jackson and the Tucson Council on Drug and Alcohol Addiction in Tucson, AZ. He also served in the Veteran's Administration in Fayetteville, AR.
Charlie is survived by his son, Walter Droke Scott; his sister, Elizabeth Scott Broad; his niece, Allison Broad and his nephew, Charles Broad, III. He is also survived by two devoted cousins, Dr. John P. Ricks, III of Houston, TX and James (Jim) S. Ricks of Jackson, MS. John and Jim have helped Charlie in countless ways during his illness.
Also, Charlie is survived by cousins Hugh Marshall Love, III; John Ricks Love; Diane Arnold; Annelle Scott; Cela Scott Bates; Bert Scott, Jr.; Victoria Scott; Frances Scott; Susan Cummings Carter; Kathleen Cummings Craig; Sharon Scott Rhoden; Tom B. Charlie's family would like to thank a large group of friends who have been so faithful to Charlie. A group of ladies formed a "take dinner to Charlie chain" and Charlie enjoyed many home-cooked meals from these friends. A group of men has been particularly good to Charlie by taking him to radiation treatments, doctors' appointments, going to Charlie's home to have devotionals, taking Charlie to lunch, keeping Charlie's car washed, getting a lift chair for him…and the list goes on and on….
The family has asked that memorials be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
