Charles "Chuck" Stinson

Chuck grew up in Oak Ridge, TN, and graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1985 with a degree in broadcast journalism. He made Mississippi his home in 1986 when he began his career at WXVT in Greenville before moving to WABG where he served as sports director. If you lived in the Mississippi Delta and followed sports at all, you knew Chuck Stinson.

In 1995, Chuck made the move to Jackson to join the WLBT team where he covered every major sports story in Mississippi for the next fourteen years. He pivoted his career in 2009 and began working with the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency where he served as Director of Community Services and Relations. While promoting organ, eye, and tissue donation throughout the state became his new passion, he never fully left the world of sports and broadcasting behind. His morning sports show with best friend Doug Colson “The Score” ran for fourteen years until 2014, and he was still covering Friday night High School football games for WLBT when he became ill in 2020.

Chuck is preceded in death by his father Alan Stinson, his mother Pat Bruce Stinson, his brother Scott Stinson, his mother-in-law Valerie Reifers, and his sister-in-law Francis Reifers.

He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Regina Reifers Stinson and their three daughters, Claire, Emily, and Molly. His memory will be forever cherished by his father-in-law, Tommy Reifers, brothers-in-law, Key (Debbie), Adam, and Jay, and his sister-in-law Bridget Reifers Barner (Mike). Chuck will also be greatly missed by his huge and loving group of nieces and nephews who were crazy about their Uncle Chuck along with the countless friends and colleagues who are forever changed by having known him.

Chuck was a storyteller with a huge sense of humor who could pull off a bow tie like no one else. Any room he entered could easily be filled with laughter, jokes, and a whole lot of teasing - but only if he knew you could take it. He had a genuine interest in everyone he met and never met a stranger.

Chuck was an avid golfer, a Seattle Seahawks super fan, and a friend to all. The outpouring of love, messages, and memories while Chuck fought his health battles was a testament to all the people he left an impression on and who will carry his wisdom and kindnesses with them for the rest of their days.

He left this world a better place for him having been in it. As a friend said, “If you are lucky enough to have known Chuck Stinson, you are lucky enough.”

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Monday, January 9th at 2:00 pm at Pinelake Church, 223 Old Jackson Road, Madison, MS with a reception to follow.
