Clementine Elizabeth "Tina" Stortz DeNovo, age 103, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, in Ridgeland, Mississippi. She was born on April 20, 1923, in San Antonio, Texas, to John and Elizabeth Stortz.
Tina was a proud native of San Antonio, where she attended St. Joseph Catholic School before continuing her education at Our Lady of the Lake College and the University of the Incarnate Word, earning her nursing degree and becoming a Registered Nurse. Nursing was far more than a profession to Tina; it was her calling. She devoted her career to caring for others and remained passionate about nursing throughout her life. Even during her final years at The Blake at Township, where she resided for the last six years, she never stopped identifying herself as a nurse. She would often tell the staff that she was ready to help find IV veins or perform chest compressions if they ever needed an extra hand, bringing smiles to those around her and reminding everyone that once a nurse, always a nurse.
Tina was also a devoted wife and caregiver. During the last 10 years of her beloved husband James Joseph DeNovo’s life, she lovingly cared for him at home, allowing him to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own home. Her dedication, strength, and unwavering love were a beautiful reflection of the commitment they shared throughout their 67 years of marriage.
Outside of her career, Tina found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved spending time fishing and had a special place in her heart for animals, especially stray cats, always making it her mission to find them loving homes. Her compassion extended to both people and animals, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Joseph DeNovo; her parents, John and Elizabeth Stortz; her sister, Frances Marie Stortz; her brother, Winfred E. Stortz; and her son-in-law, Rick McNabb.
She is survived by her three daughters, Susan Titone (Jody), Diane McNabb, and Carolyn Henderson (David); her grandchildren, Brandie Martin (Trey), Jake McNabb (Tiger), Tara Titone, Robin Branton (John), Madison Henderson, and Dillon Henderson; her great-grandchildren, J. T. Martin, Tinsley Martin, Jack Martin, Avery McNabb, Mia Titone Higgins, Tate Branton (Kayleigh) and their daughter, Emarie, Searcy Branton, Quin Branton, Harrison Branton, Suzannah Branton, and Keeton Henderson.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 am on July 16, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Madison, Mississippi, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm. The Mass will be officiated by Father Matthew Simmons. Tina will be laid to rest at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, Louisiana.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her devoted caregiver, Shonda Banks, who's loving care and companionship over the past 18 months meant so much to Tina and her family. They also wish to express their sincere appreciation to the compassionate staff, nurses, and hospice team at The Blake at Township for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they provided throughout Tina’s final years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Webster's Animal Shelter, in honor of Tina's lifelong compassion for her faith, nursing, children, and animals.
