
Donald B. Morrison passed away Monday, August 1, 2016. A visitation will be held at 10 am Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Parkway Funeral Home located on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland. A celebration of his life will follow in the chapel at 11 am.
Don was born October 13, 1933 in Utica, Mississippi to the late Eric Donaldson Morrison and Rosemary Butler Morrison. He graduated from Utica High School in 1951 where, among other things, he played football and basketball. He recently enjoyed a homecoming celebration of Old Utica High School Graduates.
He attended Mississippi State College (later known as Mississippi State University) and graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree. While at MSC, Don was President of the School of Science, President of the Class of 1955, and was listed in Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges. He was the business manager of the school annual, President of Sigma Phi Epsilon, and was a member of the Scabbard and Blade drill team.
Following graduation, Don was commissioned into the US Army as Second Lieutenant. After serving two years of active duty, Don remained in the Mississippi National Guard until his retirement in 1975. In recognition of his service, he received the Mississippi Magnolia Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the State of Mississippi.
After completion of his active duty service in the US Army, Don attended the University of Mississippi School of Law and graduated in 1960. While at Ole Miss, he served in the Campus senate and was a member of Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.
Don was a member of the Hinds County, the Mississippi State and the American Bar Associations. His primary expertise and concentration of experience and service was in the area of trucking operations regulated by the Public Service Commission.
In his retirement years, Don was an avid gardener. With the help of his trusted assistant, Richard Burns, he planted and harvested a variety of flowers and vegetables from his back yard garden. He took great pleasure in distributing his bounty to his friends and neighbors.
Don was a member of Galloway United Methodist Church where he was a faithful member of the Inquirers class.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Rosalene Morrison Clifton. He is survived by his nephews Jason (Erin) and Christopher Clifton.
Pallbearers will be Richard Burns, Jason Clifton, Chip Hunt, Rob McArty, Billy Templeton, and Dick Weatherholt.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Utica Cemetery, in Utica, Mississippi.
