

Doris Marie Cartmell, along with her twin brother Doran, were born in Logan, West Virginia on October 18, 1942 to Jimmy and Margie Cartmell. She grew up in West Virginia and South Carolina, but West Viriginia always held a special place in her heart. She met Elmer Black in 1960, and they dated for several years before their marriage on December 23, 1967. They welcomed their daughter, Marjorie in 1971. Elmer’s job took them to from South Carolina to Clinton, Mississippi in 1986 and Mississippi became home.
Doris had several different jobs throughout her life. She most often worked as a secretary in banks, schools, or offices, but her favorite job was being a substitute teacher in the elementary schools in Clinton. She really enjoyed working with students and helping them learn new things.
Doris had a strong testimony of her Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. She was a lifelong member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings and enjoyed serving with many wonderful people. She especially loved doing genealogy, learning about her family history and serving in the temple.
Some of Doris’ other favorite things were her weekly hair appointments, having lunch with her friends from church, Golden Oreos, Smarties candies, her grandchildren, Spencer, Rachel and Jacob and her great grandson Jeremy. She loved being a grandmother and great grandmother.
Doris passed away on February 23, 2025 and was welcomed by her husband Elmer, her parents, her siblings and many other dear family members and friends. Survivors include her daughter Marjorie (Carter), grandchildren Spencer (Jasmine), Rachel (Baylor), and Jacob, great-grandson Jeremy, her brother Pete, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Doris will be held Friday, March 7, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Pkwy, Ridgeland, Mississippi 39157. A visitation will occur Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1301 Pinehaven Drive, Clinton, Mississippi 39056. A funeral service will occur Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 3:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1301 Pinehaven Drive, Clinton, Mississippi 39056. A final resting place will occur at Parkway Memorial Cemetery, 1161 Highland Colony Pkwy, Ridgeland, Mississippi 39157.
