

Doris Wilson Moore, 85, died peacefully on Saturday, April 7, 2012, in the apartment she shared with her husband at The Orchard, surrounded by the love of her family. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland, MS, with the funeral service to follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will be in Parkway Memorial Cemetery on Highland Colony Parkway.
Mrs. Moore was born on October 21, 1926, in St. Louis and grew up in and around Bloomfield, Missouri. In August 1944 in the midst of World War II, just after graduating from high school at the age of 17, she had a blind date with E. Don Moore of Sardis, Mississippi, a 20 year old Army Air Corps soldier stationed nearby. On their first date, he told her he was going to marry her. On their second date, they made plans to marry. Six weeks later, he left for Burma. On September 16, 1945, five days after arriving back in the states and being discharged from the Army, they married in Bloomfield and moved immediately to Jackson, MS, which was their home for the next 66 years.
Mrs. Moore attended Belhaven College, volunteered for many community organizations, and served five years as manager of the Jackson Municipal Auditorium.
Mrs. Moore, known as "Mimi" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, centered her life around her family. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, E. Don Moore of Jackson, MS; son Alan L. Moore (Julie) of Jackson, MS; daughter-in-law Mary Moore of Jackson, MS; granddaughter Jennifer Verville (Greg) and their daughters Tori and Coralie of Signal Mountain, TN; grandson Alan L. Moore II (Emily) and their son Archer of Washington, D.C.; granddaughter Story Warren (Todd) and their children Hudson, Houston and Hayden of Jackson, MS; granddaughter Amanda Kellum (Clayton) and their daughter Ann Wilson of Nashville, TN; and granddaughter Elizabeth Moore of Signal Mountain, TN. Mrs. Moore is also survived by her brother Billy Wilson (Jo) of Madison, MS, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Moore and her husband were charter members and faithful attendees of Broadmoor Baptist Church. Mrs. Moore's life was also enriched by a circle of extraordinary women who loved and supported each other through life's triumphs and challenges.
Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her youngest son Don Wilson Moore; her parents Rev. Gervus O. and Mary Baxter Wilson; brothers James Wilson and Leo Wilson, and sister Mildred Conley.
Mrs. Moore's family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to her doctor, Nancy Campbell, and Kalena Hunley, Deborah Agusiegbe, Ashley Fortenberry and Terrissia Marbra for the respectful and loving care they gave Mrs. Moore.
