Ms. Doris J Taylor
December 31, 1928 – February 5, 2019
Doris Jeannine Taylor, loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away on February 5th, 2019 at Martha Coker Green Homes in Yazoo City MS. She turned 90 years on December 31st, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Seth Flowers Taylor and her parents Lucille and Kenneth Mallicoat. Doris was born in Wichita KS. Her husband Seth was originally from Brundidge AL. She leaves behind to mourn her passing; son Seth Gregory Taylor, son Brent Leigh Taylor, daughter Melanie Jeannine Johnston, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Doris and parents moved from Wichita to Riverside CA when she was a teenager. She met Seth her husband at a USO dance during WWII, when he was stationed at the Navy base in San Diego Ca. While Seth was deployed in the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific, Doris worked as telephone operator and in retail sales in Riverside California. When Seth returned from WW11 to California, he enrolled in college at USC in Los Angeles CA. While Seth attended school, Doris worked at the USC university book store. After completed his undergraduate degree at USC, they moved to Birmingham AL while Seth attended Howard University. After receiving his degree in Pharmacy, they moved to Wichita where Seth worked as a pharmacist and Doris a homemaker. Doris was an adoring mother, encouraging her children to take music and art lessons. The family moved to Little Rock AR, then finally to Jackson MS, where they acquired a Drug Store in Terry MS. Both worked the store for 20 years.
Doris loved animals. She had several cats and dogs. Her dogs Heidi and Mollie were constant companions. She was known to rescue abandoned animals in the neighborhood and finding suitable home for them.
Doris was also a professional photographer, winning several awards and receiving recognition for her work. She especially enjoyed taking portrait pictures of friends and family, local music bands and festivals, the ballet, and for the city of Jackson. She is well known for her kindness and her life-long friendships, devotion to her husband, and family.
The funeral service will be held at Parkway Funeral Home Ridgeland, MS on Saturday February 16th. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM, followed by Memorial starting at 3:00 PM
