Dorothy Lauderdale Chastain, 6/24/24 - 12/3/19. Dot was born in Jackson, MS, where she lived 85 years, followed by 10 years at The Orchard in Ridgeland. Dot was a life-long member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught 2 yr-old Sunday School. Dot graduated from Jackson Central High School, worked at the Post Office and then served the state of Mississippi in a number of clerical and administrative posts for 40 years.
She is predeceased by her parents Giles Lawrence and Pearl Sutherland Lauderdale, her husband James Chastain, brother Giles Louis Lauderdale (Mary Grace), sisters Elizabeth Lauderdale Ranager (Walter), Nina Lee Lauderdale Allen (Charles) Hilton (James), nephews John Lawrence Lauderdale (Donna), Leonard Louis Lauderdale (Judy), niece Anne Lauderdale Sartin (Jim). She is survived by step-children Claire Chastain Schmid (Bill), Jaimie Chastain, Jocelyn Chastain Bojack (Mike), Bo Chastain (Connie), Judson Chastain (Becky), nephews Marc Lauderdale (Cynthia), Jim Ranager (Rose), Joe Ranager (Rebecca) and nieces Gwen Allen Anderson (Jim), Dorothy Lyn Allen Arnold (Eddie), Elizabeth Ann Ranager Inman (Jasper) Denman (Dan), Sue Lauderdale, and many grandchildren, grand nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.
Visitation will be at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Jackson at 12:30 pm on Friday, December 6, followed by services at 1:30 and interment at Lakewood Memorial Park in Clinton. Memorial donations may be made in Dot’s name to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 621 Duling Ave, Jackson, MS 39216.
Thank you to all of Dot’s friends who have visited, written, played bridge, sewed, worked, and traveled with her - and shared jokes, stories, and photos - throughout the years. You were precious to Dot.
