Dorothy "Dot" Kerr

Dot Kerr died Sunday, March 25, at the Rose Garden in Ridgeland, MS. She was born August 20, 1925, to Willie and Myrtle Parker of Sumrall, MS, where she spent her early years. She graduated from Jones Community College and Blue Mountain College. Following graduation, Dot was a secretary at Calvary Baptist Church in Jackson where she met her future husband, Horace Kerr, a student at Mississippi College. After school, she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for various business and professional groups in Fort Worth, Tupelo, Jackson, and Nashville. She retired in 1988 and moved with her husband back to the Jackson area.

Dot was an active member of First Baptist Church, Jackson, MS, from 1959-1976 and again from 1989 until the present. She was known as a delightful hostess who enjoyed having guests in her home, and as a caring person who served her Lord in ministering to the needs of friends and family in many ways, especially with her cooking. Dot was a long-time member of the Castlewoods Ladies, Jackson Ladies, Jackson Senior Ladies and Mississippi Ladies Golf Associations.

Dot was predeceased by her parents; her husband Horace; two sisters, Lucille Parker and Vivian McBride; and four brothers, Martin Parker, Travis Parker, Jack Parker, and Carl Parker. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Sandra and Tommy Jarrett of Madison and Gail and Eddie Maynard of Lynchburg, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law, David and Sally Kerr of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Alan, Scot, and Laurie Jarrett; Jennifer (Chris) Cowan, Paul (Jenny) Maynard, and John (Kelsey) Maynard; and Mary Jane Kerr; and great grandchildren, Jordan, Noah, and Cassidy Cowan, and Bryce Maynard. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Lucy Parker of Sumrall and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation with the family will be held at First Baptist Church, Jackson, at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March, 28, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at First Baptist Church. Memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church Library, 431 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39201, or a charity of one's choice.
