Edwin Eugene Kerstine

The Honorable Edwin Eugene Kerstine passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018 at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Ferrell Kerstine of Madison, MS, two daughters Michelle (Eric) Garner of Raleigh and Carlyn (Jerry) Elenbaas of Natchez, a brother Dr. Richard (Mona) Kerstine of Cincinnati, OH, two sisters Margery Kerstine and Mildred (Sidney) Jones of Claremont, CA, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isidor and Corinne Weiss Kerstine of Clarksdale.

Edwin was born on September 27, 1945 in Clarksdale. He graduated from Clarksdale-Coahoma High School in 1963 and received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Mississippi in 1977. He served as E-5 Medical Corpsman in the United States Navy. He was appointed to a special program and completed the certification for medical lab technician. He was a Captain in the medical service corps in the US Army Reserves.

He lived in Natchez for over 25 years where he was an attorney at law and a public defender. Later he moved to Jackson where he continued his law practice and was employed part time by Baptist Hospital as a Medical Lab Technician.

Since 2001, he served as an Administrative Law Judge in the office of Hearings and Appeals, Social Security Administration. He was admitted to the practice of law in Mississippi and before the US District Courts in Mississippi as well as the US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

A funeral is scheduled for Thursday, May 24th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:00 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland. Burial will be in the Cary Cemetery in Cary. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to make a donation in Edwin's name to your favorite charity or to the Cary Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 333, Cary, 39054.

To honor Mr. Kerstine, pallbearers will be Eric Garner, Jerry Elenbaas, Blake Ward, Sam Bass, Jack Warner, Hank Jones , Jeff Kerstine and Lynelle Woolley.
