OBITUARY

Edwina O'Brien Brumfield

December 25, 1928July 22, 2020

Edwina O’Brien Brumfield left this earthly world on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 22, 2020 in Ridgeland, MS, with family by her side, to join our Lord Jesus Christ in eternal life. Mrs. Brumfield was born at home on Christmas Day, December 25, 1928, the youngest of 10 children of Robert Edwin and Anna Leigh O’Brien of Raymond, Mississippi. She grew up on the farm in Raymond, was active in the 4-H club, winning many first-place prizes, and was Hinds County Farm Bureau Cotton Queen. She was graduated from Hinds Junior College and Mississippi State College for Women, then worked as a secretary in Jackson, MS. At a church volleyball game, she met the love of her life, Harold C. Brumfield, a Jackson architect. They married at Calvary Baptist Church on December 2, 1951 and were married for over 63 years, until Harold passed away in 2015. Harold and Edwina had five children and faithfully raised them while attending Broadmoor Baptist Church in Jackson, where Edwina was a Sunday School teacher and superintendent for many years, a member and president of the Women’s Missionary Union, and served on the historical committee. She was also a member of the Asgard Jackson Federation of Women's Club. When their children got older, Edwina worked as the bookkeeper for her husband’s architectural business for many years while active in her many church and civic organizations. Edwina loved to play tennis with her family, bowl in the church bowling league, listen to classical music and attend performances of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra. She enjoyed taking vacations with her family all over the country, was an inspired gardener and made the best caramel cake, which was requested for everyone’s special occasions. Mrs. Brumfield was predeceased by her husband Harold, and is survived by all five of their children, Hal Brumfield (Jeannie) of Brandon MS, Barbara Lynn Brumfield of Palmer PA, Susan Thompson (John) of Jackson MS, Jean Marie Brumfield of Jackson MS, and Carol Ann Herberger of Longview TX, as well as five grandchildren, Audra Brumfield, Jack Brumfield (Lorie), Ellen Turner (Todd), David Thompson, all of Jackson MS, and Travis Herberger of Lubbock TX, four great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 25 at 11 am.
