
Eleanor Anne Drake, age 83, passed away on Monday May 12, 2014. A graveside service will be held at 4 PM on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinton Blvd., Jackson, Mississippi. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Galloway United Methodist Church in Jackson, MS. There will be a reception following the service at the church.
Miss Drake was born in Jackson, Tennessee, January 29, 1931. She had lived in Jackson, Mississippi since 1934. She was a 1950 graduate of Central High School, and a 1954 graduate of Mississippi State College for Women, now Mississippi University for Women. She received her masters degree from Mississippi State University.
She was a school librarian in Arcadia, Florida and Jackson, Mississippi . She also worked at the Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg, The Mississippi Library Commission and the Jackson MS Municipal Library, now known as The Eudora Welty Library. She was an active member of the Mississippi Library Association, an organization in which she held the offices of vice-president and president. Miss Drake was a former member, vice president and president of The Review Club of Jackson, and a member of Le Mercredi Bridge Club in which she served as vice-president and president. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Tau chapter in Jackson, Mississippi. She served as chapter vice-president, president and yearbook chair.
She was included in Who's Who in Library Service and Who's Who in American Women.
She was a member of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church where she bad been a member since 1941. She was a former member of the Administrative Board and had worked with the young children for more than forty years and did volunteer work in other areas. She also volunteered for the International Arts Exhibits in Jackson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elsie H Smith and Albert Leander Drake, Sr. and her sister, Elsie Marie Drake Brindley (Barry).
She is survived by one brother, Albert L. Drake, Jr. (Pat) of Morgan Hill, CA, brother-in-law, James Barry Brindley, Champaign, Il, two nephews, Douglas Alan Brindley (Gillian), New Hope, PA and Albert L Drake, III, (Kathleen) Morgan Hill, CA and one niece, Susan Barrie Brindley Helm (Brian), Studio City, CA.
