OBITUARY

Elizabeth Steen

June 13, 1919September 8, 2019

Elizabeth Steen was born near Crystal Springs, Mississippi on June 13, 1919. She was 100 years old.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Silas Sutton Steen and Hallie Hemingway Steen, along with her only sister, Marjorie Steen Martin, and her only brother, William Silas Steen. She is survived by her nephews, Roland Pimm and his wife Sara, and Max William Burdick and his wife Ann, nieces, Elizabeth Vetter and her husband Bob, and Kathryn Ives and her husband David and numerous great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth expanded her family to include Thomas and Janet Connell, who are now deceased. She also included their sons, Philip Cason Connell and K. Bruce Connell and wife Beverly Greet Connell. Philip Connell's oldest daughter, Jennifer Connell Kiiss is her godchild and Jennifer's brother, Brian Connell, and sister, Catherine Connell, are very dear to her.

Elizabeth worked for the Department of Housing and Urban Development and lived in Washington, D.C. She was later transferred to Richmond, Virginia and then to Atlanta, Georgia where she worked for some forty years. She was finally transferred to Jackson, Mississippi where she retired in 1971.

When she moved to ]ackson, she transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Hope and Joy Sunday School Class having served as Class Secretary for a number of years. She was a member of the Ralph Humphrey Chapter DAR where she served as Regent. She was a member of the Reverend Samuel Swayze Chapter of Colonial Dames XVII Century and served as President. She was a Life Member of the First Families of Mississippi and she also belonged to a number of other civic organizations.

Elizabeth loved to travel not only in the United Slates but she also traveled to Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, Australia, and New Zealand.

Family members and friends not only will miss Elizabeth, but she will be missed by her long time Housekeeper, Evie Simmons, who in later years was her nurse and companion.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS with funeral services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Florence Cemetery in Florence, MS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church Jackson.

I just remember through the years how beautiful Elizabeth was. She had a great memory and remembered so many relatives and friends and their children and details.
