Elizabeth Troutman Wallace passed from this life to eternity in Heaven on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. While she had been dealing with the challenges of advancing years, her passing was unexpected. Nevertheless, her last days were good ones filled with time spent with those she loved and in the good care of the staff at Beau Ridge Memory Care.
Elizabeth was born in Leake County, Mississippi on November 13, 1933 to Odie Leon and Lucille Sessums Troutman. Raised in those post-Depression years, Elizabeth had a fierce work ethic and tremendous self-discipline. She attended Carthage Consolidated High School and graduated to attend nursing school, earning her credentials as a Registered Nurse. Elizabeth pursued the work that was her passion until late in life with the majority of her years - more than 30 - at St. Dominic Hospital excelling in a wide range of capacities. She also made time to make her services and experience available to various non-profit and community aid organizations through the years.
It was during those years in Carthage that she met her lifelong best friend and husband, Marshall ‘Bishop’ Wallace. Rarely separated and always pulling in the same direction, Bishop passed from this life only eight months before his bride after almost 65 years of marriage. As a pair they were devoted to each other, to their church, and to their daughters and their growing families. They will always be known as cheerful servants of God and of His church, working in many and varied capacities with their beloved Broadmoor Baptist, and following His great commission to go to the ends of Earth spreading the good news of Christ. From Kenya to Ukraine and Maine to Montana, they went joyfully together in the work of the Kingdom.
The devotion they shared toward their family was apparent to all, and Elizabeth was a fierce advocate and defender of her family, and a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that worked tirelessly to teach and model the things she believed. All the while, she maintained a sharp wit and a lightning quick response that often took others by surprise. There were always laughs involved when Elizabeth was on her game.
She, and Bishop, leave a bright legacy and they will be missed by many and will live in the hearts of their family and friends long into the future.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Bishop, and is survived by her daughters Ann Rigney (James) and Amy Adams (Rick), grandchildren Amy Elizabeth Cockroft (Sam), Ford Rigney (Summer), Brantley Adams (Erin), Millie Baker (Camden), and great-grandchildren, Mary Bishop Cockroft, Reed Cockroft and Sawyer James Rigney.
She will be laid to rest at Parkway Memorial Cemetery next to her Bishop after a private, graveside celebration led by her dear friend and former Pastor, Dr. Jim Futral. Any memorial gifts should be directed to the Children’s Ministry at Broadmoor Baptist Church, a ministry dear to Elizabeth.
