Elton D. Ammons Sr. died Saturday Feb. 10, 2013 at Miss Baptist Medical Center.

Visitation is at Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church Tuesday evening 5:30-7:00 PM and a small private family graveside service will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park on Clinton Blvd. on Wednesday.

Born October 30, 1921 in D'Lo, Mississippi. Mr. Ammons was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served proudly World War II and as a Seabee in the Navy Reserves. He was a 43 year employee of South Central Bell and a co-owner of Polly's Fabrics in Jackson, MS. Mr. Ammons was active in his community serving in leadership roles with the Boy Scouts, Little League baseball, Grand Lodge of Miss F. & A.M. Lodge #0636 and the Shriner's Wahabi Temple. He was also very active in his faith community as a charter member of Broadmoor Baptist Church and a deacon for many years; currently member of Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Ammons is preceded in death by his parents Luther D. and Etta Woolsey Ammons, his first wife Doris Marie (Polly) Hobgood Ammons, and two of his grandchildren, Elton D. Ammons III and Lisa Ivy Foster. He is survived by his wife Martha Lance Ammons, son Elton D. "Buddy" Ammons Jr., daughters Cheryl Ammons Ivy (Dave) and Susan Ammons Ross (Tim); grandchildren James Richard "Jay" Ammons, Carrie Ivy Thurman, Charles Cameron Ross, and Thomas Bradford "Brad" Ross; great grandchildren Elton D. "Dylan" Ammons IV, Kane Ammons, Kendall Ammons, and Blake Foster, and Martha's sons, Ronald Lane (Christy), Daryl Lane and Marvin Lane (Karla), Grandchildren Nick & Marlee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church, 750 Pear Orchard Rd. Jackson, MS 39157
