Gertie was born on July 15, 1929, to George Prichard Davis and Nettie Turnage Davis in Mount Olive, Mississippi. Gertie was preceded in death by her parents and her two sisters, Jane Agard and Jewel Charlesworth.
Gertie was blessed with eight children who were the joy of her life. Sadly though, she lost four of her sons before her death. They were George, Louis, Rene’, and Michael. Gertie is survived by her only daughter, Anita Tucker (Johnny) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and her three sons, Norbert (Linda) of Tallahassee, Florida, Guy (Patty) of Madison, Mississippi, and Joseph (Brenda) of Clinton, Mississippi. Gertie is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Equally important in Gertie’s life was her Catholic faith. Gertie was a parishioner at St. Joseph Catholic Church. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention that St. Mary’s Church always held a special place in Gertie’s heart. We often heard Gertie say “God is good.”
Other than being a devoted Mother, Gertie enjoyed her work at Catholic Charities, which she retired from at the early age of 75.
Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 on Friday, March 11th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gluckstadt followed by a Mass at 2:00. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Clinton, Mississippi.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Michael and Rene’ Barbee Scholarship fund at St. Joseph High School, in Madison, Mississippi.
