Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Wendla Christianson; husband, Charles R. Jones; daughter, Joanne Maxwell Fedrick; son, Wayne Davis; sister, Doris Reeves; brother, William Christianson.
Mrs. Jones was born in Bronx, New York, in 1930. The youngest of 3 children born to Swedish immigrants, she embraced all of life’s challenges of those days. She completed her education in New York City. After World War II she met and married Henry Davis, and became a proud US Navy wife. She traveled to and resided in many different cities. She had many happy memories of their days in Rhode Island and Missouri raising her four children, who were her pride and joy.
It was also during those years that she responded to her other true calling-becoming a nurse. She completed her training as an LPN, and worked as a nurse in various cities. After moving to Mississippi in 1964, she continued her nursing education and career, later becoming Head Nurse of the Emergency Room and Critical Care Director at Hinds General Hospital in Jackson. She loved nursing and was a dedicated leader and true friend to all of those who knew her. Her love, compassion and generosity were evident throughout her nursing career, which exceeded over 30 years of service at the same hospital.
In 1978 she was blessed to have married her wonderful husband, Charles Jones, whom she dearly loved. Together they had 25 years creating a lifetime of memories with, and for, all of their 6 children, 11 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
Ethel first and foremost loved GOD, her family, and those in her church family. Her faith and Christian values were evident in the way she lived; especially the way she shared so much of herself, always having a positive attitude and kind word, and giving selflessly to help others. She will be remembered by her sweet smile, pretty blue eyes, and the way she always made everyone feel so special and happy.
She is survived by her son, Warren Davis (Rooney) of Terry; daughter, Judy Groff (Jim) of Brandon; stepson, Allan Jones (Marci) of Birmingham, Alabama; stepdaughter, Sandi Dean (Bob) of Brandon; Grandchildren Rachel Blount (Will) of Madison; Jacob Davis of Madison, Drew Maxwell of Flowood, Chase Maxwell (Adrea) of Ocean Springs, Kelly Rice (Aaron) of Madison, Kristy Ford (Aaron) of Saltillo, Mindy Boyd (Eddie) of Brandon, Michael Dean of San Antonio, Texas, Jennifer Coker (Chip) of Dacula, GA, Allison Kerston of Birmingham, AL, Shannon Wilker of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Twenty great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church, 6481 Old Canton Road, Jackson, MS 39211, or Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland, 450 Towne Center Blvd., Ridgeland, MS 39157.
