Faye Holland King of Madison, Mississippi passed away peacefully on May 22, 2024 at the age of 82 after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. The first of two daughters, Faye was born in Meridian, MS on January 27, 1942, to the late Earl and Bernadine Holland. She spent her childhood in Canton, graduating as the Valedictorian from Canton High School in 1960.
She continued her studies at The University of Mississippi where she earned degrees in History and German in 1964. During her time in Oxford, she met and then married Walter Dennis “Denny” King on December 22, 1963. The young couple made their first home in Oxford and welcomed their first son Dennis in 1965. Faye and Denny then moved to Jackson, MS where they welcomed their second son Wes in 1968.
Not one to remain still, Faye embraced life. While raising her sons, she was an active PTO member and never missed the chance to cheer her boys on in their various school activities. Outside of family, her life revolved around her other love – the Ole Miss Rebels. Many fall Saturdays were spent wearing red and blue, chanting “Hotty Toddy!” and “Go to Hell, LSU!” Traveling and golfing were two of her favorite pastimes through which she made many dear friends and memories over the years. She particularly cherished the many adventures that she shared with her sister Barbara. Their travels took them to cities in China, Hong Kong, Bali, Singapore, Bangkok, England’s Lake District and many other US locales. She was also a voracious reader and enjoyed spending time with her close friends. All her endeavors were not purely leisure. She enjoyed running an import/export company based in Yugoslavia as well as cellular phone businesses located in Jackson and Atlanta.
Faye will be fondly remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend. She is survived by her husband Denny of 60 years and sons: Dennis (Lisa) of Oxford and Wes (Linda) of Madison. She was “Granny” to: Ryan (Stormie) of Shreveport, Sean (Kristina) of Madison, Weston (Madison) of Dallas, Katie of Birmingham and Dennis (Destiny) of Oxford. Faye was also blessed with great-grandchildren Boston, Karter, Emmi, and baby King (due in June) of Shreveport and Lucy and Clayton of Madison. She is also survived by her sister Barbara (Mike) Hardy of North Carolina, her brother-in-law Jack (Kay) King of Batesville and her sister-in-law Betty Self of Dallas.
