Mrs. Walsh was born on December 4, 1925, to Alfred Valentour and Meddie Lee Thomas Valentour. She was raised in the Pearl community in Rankin County. Mae attended school in Pearl and Jackson, Mississippi, and for a while, Belhaven College. She met the love of her life, John Bilbro Walsh, at Pearson Baptist Church one Sunday in the early 1940's. John B. quickly gave her the nickname that lasted her life: "Daisy". After graduation from Central High School in 1944, Mae and John B. were married August 19, 1944. Their life together lasted 65 years. Mae went to work with the Middle Mississippi Council of the Girl Scouts of America in 1945, working as a secretary but also working many summers at Camp Wahi, the Council's summer camp outside Brandon. In 1951 she decided to become a full-time housewife and to stay home to begin a family. She was a member of Alta Woods Baptist Church, a Christian, a loving mother, grandmother, a soon-to-be great-grandmother, aunt and friend to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister Marie Valentour Weathersby.
She is survived by her children Margaret (Chuck) Carter, Bill (Cindy) Walsh, and Barry Walsh, all of Madison. Other survivors include her grandchildren Matt (Jennifer) Rosamond (Clarksville, TN), Phillip (Jodi) Walsh (Madison), Jonathan Rosamond (Starkville), Brent (Aisha) Walsh (Queens, NY), and Caryn (Jim) Stribling (Madison), and one soon-to-be great-grandson, Zachary Wyatt Rosamond.
