Born in Livingston, Tennessee, on July 23, 1933, Geneva grew up on a family farm with her parents, Josie and Quitman Evans, and her siblings, Sam and Johnnie. Her childhood on the farm shaped her into the strong, kind, and caring woman her family came to know in her life. She attended Livingston Academy during her school years.
In her twenties, Geneva began working in banking before marrying the love of her life, Thomas Harvey Jordan on September 3, 1955. Together, they built a beautiful life devoted to each other, their children, and their faith. Geneva and Thomas raised four children — Kathy Sue, Thomas S., Debra L., and T. Kay, teaching them by example the meaning of love, family, and faith.
She and Thomas made lasting memories in Nashville, Tennessee, before moving to Clinton, Mississippi, in 1973. She spent her final years in Canton, Georgia, with her family.
A hardworking and dedicated professional, Geneva spent years working for Nationwide Insurance. She was a devoted member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church and Broadmoor Baptist Church, where her faith remained a guiding light. Her amazing meals, legendary pies, and cakes, especially her chocolate cake, turned simple gatherings into lasting memories. Family gatherings included food, laughter, and games, especially Dominos. She participated in a bowling league with Tom enjoying their time together. She participated in Real Estate ventures owning several rental properties.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas H. Jordan; her parents Josie and Quitman Evans; her siblings Sam Evans and Johnnie Slaven; her daughter Kathy Sue; and her granddaughters Jennifer Jordan and Morgan Whaley.
Left to honor her memory are her children Thomas S. Jordan (Kim), Debra Basone (Dean), and Kay Smith (Alan); her grandchildren Matt Jordan (Hannah), Aaron Hannah (Ashleigh), Meagan Hannah, Samantha Jordan, and Jordan Basone (Shelby); and her great-grandchildren Anna Reeves, Thomas G., Hazel, Colt, Elliott, J.W., Finley, Charlie, Lily, Jameson, Rosie, and Thomas Q.
Geneva’s life reflected love, faith, and family. Her care, kindness, and faith left an imprint that will never fade. Geneva will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of Geneva’s life will be at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland MS; the graveside service will be on Saturday May 9th at 11am.
