I remember being a little girl in Bentonia, getting ill in the middle of the night, and Mama would pile me into the car and head to Dr. Allard's office. He'd meet us at his home office in his pj's and slippers and take care of whatever ailment I had. He knew I hated shots so he'd distract me and before you knew it the shot was over and I was still waiting for the sting. I used to tease him abt the penmanship award he had posted over his desk where he wrote his prescriptions, which as is the case with many doctors were illegible. I've often thought over the past few years to drop him a note and I regret that I didn't. He was so kind to my grandfather Oscar Neely in the early 60's as he fought terminal cancer. He came to see Granddaddy the afternoon before I passed that evening. He was the the perfect personification of the small town doctor with a huge heart and I will continue to think of him with great fondness and respect. God bless Dr. George...you'll be missed.
