It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of George Rodney Thomas on March 26, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on December 18, 1948, in Shreveport, LA and served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970. Rod's journey through life was one marked by dedication, kindness, and a great sense of humor that endeared him to all.
A steadfast worker, Rod's career at Western Waterproofing spoke volumes of his commitment and skill, traits that he carried into every facet of his life. He was the rock upon which his family was built, always available to lend a helping hand or share a word of encouragement.
Rod's jovial spirit was a beacon of light, illuminating the lives of those around him with laughter and genuine affection. His unique ability to express his thoughts candidly, coupled with his trademark mannerisms, left a memorable imprint on the hearts of his family and friends.
He leaves behind a loving family: his sister Brenda Moore (Chris); his devoted life partner of 29 years, Sonia Stevens and their favorite, their yorkie, Piper; his sons Allen (and wife Brittany) and Patrick (and wife Ashley); stepchildren Sommer Stevens and Kendall (and wife Jamie); and his adored grandchildren Ivey Reese, Wilder, Lily James, Wyatt, Maren, Barrett, Sage and Liv; many neice and nephews he loved dearly: John Christopher Moore (and wife Tammy) and their children Madison and Logan; Amy Hennings and her sons Landon and Gabe. Last but definitely not least, his long time fishing buddy, Johnny Henry. Rod was predeceased by his revered parents, known fondly as George Rodney Thomas "Pops" and Hazel Thomas.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, April 1 from 4-7 p.m at Parkway Funeral Home. The burial will be held on Tuesday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. Rod's legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Rod, we take solace in knowing that he lived a life full of joy and purpose. His memory will forever be cherished and kept alive in the stories we share and the love we continue to hold for him.
