

Glenn was born in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 1936, the youngest of nine children. He spent his early childhood in Pennsylvania before moving to Jackson, Mississippi, in early adolescence. He attended St. Joseph High School, where he played football and baseball. After graduating, he served as a Marine during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he attended Mississippi College on the GI Bill.
Glenn later returned to St. Joseph High School as a history teacher and coach, leading both the football and baseball teams. He remained an avid sports fan throughout his life.
Glenn met his first wife, Pat Aulenbrock, while serving as best man in his best friend’s wedding, where Pat was the bride’s sister and maid of honor. They were married for 25 years and had five children together: Ken, Marty, Mike, Kevin, and Gail.
In addition to teaching and coaching, Glenn was a serial entrepreneur. Over the course of his career, he started several businesses, including a commercial catering company, a chain of convenience stores, and an energy consulting company. In his final position before retirement, he oversaw security operations for Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Glenn later enjoyed a brief season of single life living on a houseboat on the Ross Barnett Reservoir before reconnecting with and marrying Sara Hyman in 1993. Through that marriage, he became stepfather to Mike Hyman, David “Randy” Hyman, Sharon Watson, Chris Hyman, and Wes Hyman. Glenn and Sara shared 31 years together before her passing in 2024, making homes together in Fondren and Flowood.
In his final years, Glenn lived at Ridgeland Place Nursing Home, where he served as a member of the resident leadership committee.
Glenn is survived by his sons, Ken Patterson, Mike (Beverly) Patterson, and Kevin (Sonnie) Patterson; his stepchildren, Mike (Nicole) Hyman, David “Randy” Hyman, Sharon (Terry) Watson, Chris (Nicole) Hyman, and Wes (Payton) Hyman; his grandchildren-- Alicia (Justin) Edrington, Sylvia (Luis) Gomez, Mariana (Patrick) Patterson Fairfield, Michael Patterson, Lauren Patterson, Mary Beth Rouly, Bobby Owens, Bill Owens, Michael Hyman, Hannah Hyman, Emily Hyman, Sophie Hyman, Melissa Peterson, Jeremiah Underwood, and Amanda Hyman; and his great-grandchildren--Ryker Edrington, Emmett Edrington, and Wren Edrington.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Patterson; his son, Marty Patterson; his daughter, Gail Patterson; and his siblings.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Parkway Cemetery in Ridgeland, Mississippi.
