Grant was born on January 31, 1972, in Starkville, MS to Roger D. Smith and Lynda Harmon Smith. The family moved to Texas when he was very young and he spent his early years first in Bryan, College Station, and later in Allen, TX. He graduated from Allen High School in 1991. Playing four years of football at Allen gave him his lifelong love of the game. Grant loved watching football and most of all talking about football. After high school he attended Collier County Community College in McKinney, TX.
The family moved back to Mississippi in 2003 to be closer to loved ones. He was a member of Old Town Wesley Church, he loved working with Dad, and traveling. He was compassionate and caring to everyone he encountered and the most loving son anyone could ask for.
Fly high, Grant. Above this world of pain and suffering, into the loving arms of God and your precious loved ones who await you.
Grant is survived by his mother, Lynda Smith of Ridgeland; aunt and uncles, Tim and Peggy Dawson of Franklin, TN, Dennis and Melanie Harmon of Brandon, Joe and Kathy Overstreet of Wimberly, TX, Diana Linley, Jerald and Pam Harmon, Judy and Curtis Hare, Michael and Paula Harmon, Danny and Nikki Harmon, and Mark and Christy Harmon, all of Houston, MS; and a special family friend, Linda Honeycutt of Jackson.
