Harriet was a native of Jackson, Mississippi, her beloved home town. She graduated from Central High School in 1939 where she met her husband, Hollis. They were married in her parents’ living room as soon as Hollis received orders from the U.S. Navy during World War II. The devoted couple had been married 49 years at the time of Hollis’s death. Both of them loved to travel and enjoyed many trips together as well as many memorable family vacations. Harriet was a homemaker at heart. She could be found in the kitchen any time of day preparing meals, frying a batch of homemade french fries, a family favorite, baking pound cakes and pies, or whipping up milkshakes. At all family gatherings you could find Harriet and her loved ones enjoying chips and dips while visiting around the table. She not only prepared food for her family but found great pleasure in providing food for her church’s congregational care ministry. Her greatest joy in life was her family for whom she prayed daily and loved unconditionally.
