
Harvey Lee Davis, 89, departed this life on Saturday, December 3, 2011 for eternity with his Lord and Savior. Mr. Davis was born on September 21, 1922, to the late Joseph Pearl Davis and Willie Chain Davis in Jasper, Walker County, Alabama, and later moved to Caledonia, Mississippi, for most of his youth. Mr. Davis is predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Johnnie Lee McLemore Davis; and survived by three daughters: Pat McMinn of Madison, MS; Lynette Wilson (Bryan) of Madison, MS; and Carol Watkins (Dennis) of Cleveland, TN; five grandchildren: Bryan Wilson II (Codie) of Clevelan, TN; Brett Wilson (Courtney) of Marion, AR; and Jaclyn Watkins of New York City, NY, Jillian Watkins, and Channing Watkins of Cleveland, TN; and two great grandchildren: Ty Elisha Wilson of Marion, AR and Dakota Lynn Wilson of Cleveland, TN.
Mr. Davis is also survived by one brother, Grady Davis, of Byram, MS, and one sister, Laura Pennington, of Columbus, MS. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by the following brothers and sisters: Alfred Davis, Milford Davis, Garland Davis, Vesta Davis Belcher, Clifford Davis, Onie Davis Smith, and Florice Davis Logan.
Harvey Davis served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army, 63rd Infantry Division, Combat Engineers, on the front lines of France and Germany constructing pontoon bridges, and he participated in the first break through the Siegfried Line in Germany. Mr. and Mrs. Davis returned to France and Germany for a memorable trip celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary and retraced his wartime travels.
Harvey Davis received his undergraduate degree in Agriculture Education from Mississippi State University in 1949. He also completed graduate studies in Agricultural Economics in 1963 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. He began his career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration, serving as county supervisor and area supervisor over various counties of the state, and chief of the business and industry division in the State Office. Upon retirement after thirty-plus years of service, Mr. Davis operated his own financial consulting firm and real estate agency as a broker.
Mr. Davis had many hobbies, including constructing homes and woodworking, and building tables and china cabinets for all three of his daughters. He also built birdhouses and feeders for his bird watching pleasure. He also collected and repaired antique clocks. Harvey Davis also served the community through the Lions Club.
Harvey Davis was a longtime member of Southside Assembly of God Church and served as a deacon and teacher of the adult Harvesters Class. He also served as treasurer, Sunday School superintendent, deacon and youth leader at other churches around the state. Mr. Davis also wrote articles for Sunday School literature, numerous of which were published by Pathway Press.

There will be a celebration of the life of Harvey Davis on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home, Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, MS.
