Henry was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky on June 22, 1950 to Mavis and James Thornton. He graduated from Wingfield High School in 1968. He attended Hinds Junior College after high school. Henry married Harriet Papisan and together had one son, Stephen Thornton.
Henry is survived by his son, Stephen; mother, Mavis Thornton; brother, Brian Thornton; two grandchildren, Alexis and Dalton Thornton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He is predeceased by his father, Lt. Col. James M. Thornton; sister, Nancye T. Porter; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Thornton and Mr. and Mrs. Eli N. McGinty; and great nephew, Austin Taylor Kinsey.
Visitation for Henry will be held at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland on Friday, March 6, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Services will be held at Parkway on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 10:00 am, with visitation starting at 9:00 am. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.
