Ivan Gerow Lambert passed away on May 6, 2020 at the V.A. Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Ivan was born on February 17, 1949 in Jackson, MS to Robert Wayne Lambert and Nelrose Cannon Lambert. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School (Class of 67’). He served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 – 1977.
Ivan was active in the Knights of Columbus, it was a huge part of his life. His father was former District Deputy Bob Lambert and his mother was Past State Auxiliary President Nelrose Lambert. Ivan was a charter member and officer in one of the first Columbian Squires Circles in Mississippi. One month after turning 18 in Feb 1967, he took all three degrees at the old John T Savage Council home in Jackson. In August 1967, he attended his first Supreme Convention with his parents in Montreal, Canada.
Ivan served as Council 848's Grand Knight multiple times. His last role as Grand Knight was in 2014-2015 when he led the council to another STAR Council award. He generously counseled grand knights, district deputies, state officers and state deputies based on his 53 years of experiences.
He was also a loving father, grandfather, brother and a loyal friend to those he knew. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need as well as offer unsolicited advice to anyone whether they needed it or not. His famous phrase was “Let me tell you need to do”. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never met a stranger.
He was most comfortable in the kitchen preparing his legendary roast beef & gravy, grilling his famous barbeque chicken or cooking “fat” burgers. He loved to fish and was a connoisseur of tootsie rolls. He always accepted people for who they were and always had a story to tell. He could very well be the reason we have fishermen tales today.
Ivan was preceded in death by his father Robert Wayne Lambert and his mother Nelrose Cannon Lambert. He is survived by his daughter Julie Lambert Brooks, son Joseph Ivan Lambert (Amy), his brother Larry Lambert (Elaine), sister Nelene L. Ledford (Steve), two nieces and two nephews and six grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Parkway Funeral Home. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions the funeral will be limited to family only. If allowed we will also air via Facebook live.
