

He was born in Charlotte, NC on June 9, 1920 as the son of the late Walter Daniel Belton, Sr. and Pauline Beatrice Caddell Belton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Bill, John, Dave, and Jack Belton.Mr. Belton served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. After the war and accustomed to hard work, he became a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating a number of businesses. The first was Belton Brothers which he owned with his brother, Bill. He later owned Belton Typewriter Company, Belton Realty Co., and Beverly Hills Mobile Home Park all in North Carolina.
An avid golfer most of his life, he had always hoped to one day, so some point, become involved in the golf business. After a bout with prostate cancer in the early 1990s, the opportunity came, and he and other family members purchased and operated Bay Pointe Country Club. He especially enjoyed his home at the course and his view off the back porch where he said he "could see four holes at once."
"Big Jim" was the epitome of the true Southern Gentleman, one who never met a stranger, and always greeted you with a warm, welcoming smile.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 74 years, Beulah "Boots" Belton. Their's was the ultimate story of 2 becoming 1 as the spent only a few days apart during all their years together.
Other Survivors include: son, Jim Belton and wife, Randy Belton, of Madison; son, John Belton and wife, Pam, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandson, Brent Belton and wife, Janell, of Brandon; granddaughter, Lisa Grubbs and husband, Cory, of Gastonia, NC; granddaughter, Ashley King and husband, Chevis, of Gastonia, NC; and great-grandchildren, Jenna Belton, Lacie Grubbs, Savannah Grubbs, and Abbie Grubbs.
Visitation and a memorial service will he held on Thursday, Nov. 6, at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, with visitation beginning at 4:00pm and the Memorial Service at 5:30pm. The Reverend Bill Hyer of Lakeside Presbyterian Church will be officiating the service.
Interment will be private.
The family would like to thank all the management staff and employees of Highland Home and Pax Hospice, along with his personal caregivers for their love, dedication, and excellent care of Big Jim. Thank you all very much.
