Jimmy was born on February 14, 1932 in the Harmony Community of Clarke County, Mississippi to Roy C. and Cammy Lou Stevens Boney. He graduated from Pachuta High School in 1950 and moved to Jackson, Mississippi, attending Jackson Commercial College. He was employed by Mississippi Valley Gas until he was called into active military service in 1954, serving for two years in Korea as a sergeant and squad leader. Following his discharge from the Army, Jimmy returned to Jackson with Mississippi Valley Gas. Later, he was a co-founder of Big Three Meter Repair Incorporated, which specialized in natural gas measurement equipment. Following his retirement from Big Three after 30 years, Jimmy enjoyed living in Madison, Mississippi and maintaining his manicured yard. In 2016, Jimmy and his wife Nancy moved to a suburb of Houston, Texas to remain closer to their daughter and family.
Jimmy was an active member of the Southern Natural Gas Association and Mississippi Natural Gas Association. He was a long time member of Alta Woods Baptist Church in Jackson and subsequently First Baptist Church of Madison.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nancy Tomlinson Boney; daughter Kathy Hutchinson (Bob) of Spring, Texas; and son Mike Boney of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He is also survived by four grandchildren whom he delighted in: Lauren Boney of Atlanta, Georgia; Amanda Boney Gorman (Chris) of Atlanta, Georgia; Amy Hutchinson O’Connell (Kevin) of Spring, Texas; and Michael Hutchinson (Crystal) of Collierville, Tennessee. Jimmy is also survived by his precious great-grandchildren; Avery, Graham, Grace, Caroline, and Brooke.
A funeral is planned for Monday, September 17 at Parkway Funeral Home at 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, Mississippi at 2:00 p.m. Visitation is planned to begin at 12:30 p.m., prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Memory Care Unit at The Forum of The Woodlands, Texas for their care, and the staff of Altus Hospice for their compassion and dedication during Jimmy’s recent illness.
