James was the third of four children. He passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021. James had been a resident of Beau Ridge for the past 3 years. James was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
James is survived by Sandra Warham Eddy, his wife of 63 years, his four children Cathy Eddy Hayes (Michael) of Charlotte, NC, J. Scott Eddy (Kate) of Madison, MS, Jeff Eddy (Tracy) of Metairie, LA and Greg Eddy (Karen) of West Islip, NY. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
James was a 1956 graduate of Hayward High School, Heyward, CA. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1956. In 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Ellen Warham and together had 4 children. After he was discharged from the Marine Corps, James worked briefly in the insurance sector before going to work for the United States Department of Agriculture as an inspector. Having moved to several locations throughout the United States during his career with USDA, he retired in 1992 after 36 years of service.
James’ legacy is that he instilled a work ethic and having a sense of pride in all that you do to his children and others. Not one to just provide a hand-out, he made us realize that we could get whatever we wanted but only if we were willing to work for it. James will be fondly remembered for his leadership with the Explorer Scouts, a co-ed division of the Boy Scouts of America for teenagers 15 to 20 years of age in Metairie, LA while his children were in their teen years. Through his leadership and direction, he helped these young adults to plan, finance and execute many camping trips, service projects and an annual ‘Super Activity’. These varied from a 350-mile bike trip down the Natchez Trace, a 100-mile canoe trip down the Pearl River and 3 trips to Canada to canoe the Boundary Waters. Jim’s involvement with Explorer Scouts impacted the lives of so many young people, some of which we are still learning about.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Association in his name.
