

Judge Garner was born in the town of McComb,Mississippi, on November 25, 1934. He was the only child of James Louis Garner, Sr. and Floride Vawter Garner. As a child he loved his grandmother’s chicken pie and food so much that he had a nickname of “Hamburger.” He graduated from McComb High School then attended the University of Mississippi where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He served two years with the United States Air Force and returned to Ole Miss where he received his Law Degree. He had a legal profession that lasted 50 years that included private practice, Justice of the Peace where his testimony changed the way Justices of the Peace are paid in Mississippi. He worked with Mississippi Worker’s Compensation Commission and as an Administrative Law Judge for the Social Security Administration where he developed many lifelong friends.
Judge Garner is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Cathy Entrekin Garner; his two daughters, Jennie Clark (Charles) and Lisa Smith (Kevan). He is also survived by his granddaughters who called him Jim Daddy; Jody Geary (Will), Sally Clark, Lisa Clark, Sophie Smith and Abby Smith.
The family would like to express their gratitude to his wonderful caregivers for their friendship, love and devotion.
Those that knew Jim will forever miss his gracious charm and pleasant manner. Jim’s loves were family, home, pets and travel.
Visitation for James Garner will be held on December 15 at Parkway Funeral Home, 1161 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland.MS at 10:am service follows at 11:00 . A private burial will be later at the Hollywood Cemetery in McComb MS.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to American Parkiromnson’s Disease Association (APDA) at P O Box 4091, Brandon, MS 39047.
