Jim was born on November 14, 1936 in Minden, Louisiana to Lillie Blue McCabe and James Sprague McCabe. Minden was his home from birth through college. He graduated from Minden High School in 1955 having never missed a day of school. He then went on to graduate from LA Tech.
On October 10, 1976, Jim married Sherry Lynn McCabe. Throughout his life Jim loved and played many sports. He was a varsity baseball, basketball and football player for Minden High School. He was a member of the All State High School teams and a starter for Minden’s semi pro baseball team, The Redbirds. After accepting a full athletic scholarship as quarterback, Jim attended and graduated summa cum laude from LA Tech. After coaching football and teaching math for a couple of years, Jim began his career in the pharmaceutical industry with Rucker Pharmaceuticals. This eventually led him to join a small group of former coworkers in a pharmaceutical company, UAD Laboratories, as sales manager and trainer in Minden, Louisiana. In 1983, UAD Laboratories moved to Jackson, Mississippi, and by then, Jim had become Vice President of Sales. Forest Pharmaceuticals of New York City and UAD Labs merged in 1989 with Jim continuing as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing until he became a consultant in the late 90s and later retired.
Nothing made Jim happier than to be in the company of friends and family. He loved his family, his work and his life. Jim basically saw each day as an adventure, and he had a happy heart. He was a devout Christian with a deep faith in God.
In addition to his wife of 46 years, Sherry Lynn McCabe, James is survived by his children, Mary Elizabeth McCabe Elderton (Carl), James Mitchell McCabe, Michael Allen McCabe (Shawna), Stacy Lynn McCabe Holtsinger (Terry), and Courtney Brooke McCabe Starkey (Beau); grandchildren, Daniel Murph, Stella Miller, James McCabe, Amber McCabe, Jacqueline McGilvray, Christina Finney, J.
