Jimmy was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on May 4, 1930 to Lydia Ruth and Willie Shoffner McHann and was the youngest of four children. He attended high school at St. Aloysius High School in Vicksburg and played in the band. He married Faye Fletcher in 1949 and moved to Jackson. They had three children, James C. McHann, Jr., John Wade McHann, and Cheryl McHann Summerlin Birch.
In earlier years, Jimmy was self employed and owned Quik-N-Ezy Curb Stores and Jackson Tomato Company. In later years he worked for Miller Transporters. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was a master at raising a vegetable garden, enjoyed working in his yard and was fascinated by any history relating to World War II.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Faye Fletcher McHann, and his three children, James C. McHann, Jr., John Wade McHann and Cheryl McHann Summerlin Birch. He was the proud grandfather of six grandchildren, John McHann, Jr., Ryan McHann, David McHann, Ashley McHann, Jessica McHann and Kevin Summerlin. His later years were blessed with seven great grandchildren, Chloe McHann, Steven Jerris, Ava Claire McHann, Wade McHann, Lillian Jerris, Ada Summerlin, and Abigail Jerris. He was survived by his niece, Connie Richardson and his nephews, Hugh Moore and Tommy Moore. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Ruth and Willie Shoffner McHann, his brother Talmadge McHann, his sister Lillian (Bea) McHann Moore Hansen, and sister Ruby McHann Richardson.
Funeral services will be held at Parkway Funeral Home, Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland, Mississippi. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13. A private family service will be held with Cliff Goolsby officiating. Burial in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
