Jimmy was born in Anniston, Alabama at Ft McClellan base hospital on October 5, 1955. After his father’s army service ended, they returned to Jackson, Mississippi. His family moved to Greenville, Mississippi in 1969.
Jimmy attended Sykes Elementary School, Whitfield Elementary School and Hardy Jr. High School in Jackson. He attended Solomon Jr. High School in Greenville and was a 1973 graduate of Greenville Christian School.
He attended MS Delta Community College in Moorhead, Mississippi. He moved back to Jackson and attended Belhaven College. Two years later, he moved to Hattiesburg and attended the University of Southern Mississippi. Jimmy made his home in Hattiesburg for 20 years.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, James Vernon Smith and grandparents Reba and Buddy Walker and Mal and Lavelle Smith.
Jimmy is survived by 2 sons and 3 grandchildren. James V Smith III (Trey) and his wife, Amy and daughters Madeline Julia Smith and Isabella Grace Smith all of Weslaco, Texas.
His son Hampton Kyle Smith, wife Mary and son Bruce Walker Smith, all of Atlanta, Georgia.
He is survived by his mother, Alice Walker Smith of Madison, MS. and his sister, Kristi Karol Smith of Madison, MS. He is also survived by numerous friends, relatives and loved ones.
Jimmy was a huge fan of Ole Miss, the New Orleans Saints and Trey’s Weslaco Panthers. He loved Nascar and cooking shows. Jimmy had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories. Jimmy loved music and enjoyed listening to his son, Kyle play the guitar.
Due to Covid, there will be no visitation or funeral. There will be only a small family gathering.
