Jim attended Jackson Public Schools (Bailey Jr. High & Central High School). He spent his freshman college year in Washington, D.C. He then returned home and enrolled in Millsaps College. His college years were interrupted by the draft in the U.S. Army, in which he served for two years. He was stationed at Fort Sam Houston Medical Military Training. His next tour of duty took him to Korea for eighteen months. He returned to the states and completed his tour at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
After returning to civilian life, Jim moved to New York to attend Interior Design School. He worked part time for several years with Bloomingdale Department Store in New York. Jim moved back to Jackson where he engaged in business for himself as an Interior Designer. In the past 55 years of being in business as Westerfield Antiques & Interiors, Inc., Jim has been retained by clients living in Los Angeles, Dallas, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota’s Long Boat Key. The most recent project that he completed was at The Pinnacle on Grace Bay Road in Turks & Caicos.
His work has been published in numerous magazines such as the prestigious Veranda, Architectural Digest, Interior Design, The Design Specifier, Los Angeles Times and other notable publications.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at St. Andrews Cathedral in Jackson, MS. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 10:00 am until service time. Interment will follow at Parkway Memorial Park in Ridgeland.
Jim’s life-long partner, Donald Michael Cooper, preceded him in death on November 28, 2012. Jim will be missed by many friends that loved him dearly. He was such a generous, thoughtful, loving person, and was very loyal to his friends.
