Jane D. Torbert

September 18, 1934August 28, 2017

Jane D. Pinson Torbert, known to many as Jean, died Monday, August 28, 2017, at her home in The Orchard in Ridgeland, Mississippi, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Visitation will be held Friday, September 1, from noon to 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the Parkway Chapel. Entombment will follow in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.

Jean was born September 18, 1934, to Jim Tom and Nellie Dickson of Tippo, Mississippi. She joined the workforce after a year at Delta State, married the late Charles Pinson, and lived her adult years in the Jackson metro area. She was bookkeeper at the Southwest YMCA for many years and finished her career in the financial department of First Baptist Church of Jackson.

The defining characteristic of Jean’s life was her relationship with God through Jesus Christ. She was passionate in her study of the Bible and teaching Sunday School so that others might know Jesus. She was keen on practical application of Scripture. She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Madison. Jean was an avid reader, a seamstress, an excellent cook, a caring friend, a loving wife and sister, and an extraordinary mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Anderson Torbert (Bill), stepson-in-law Glen Trautner, and siblings Margaret Wulff, Alene Jetton, Archie Dickson, Elaine McCoy, Arlas LaMastus, and Pat Dickson.

Survivors include her children Paul Pinson (Pat) and Jane Pinson Wilson (Steve); stepchildren Duane Torbert (Lynne), Linda Meier (Phil), and Patti Trautner; grandchildren Paige and Peyton Pinson, Robert (Jess), Andrew, and John Wilson; step grandchildren Eric and Martha Torbert, Nicholas, Billy, and Emily Meier, Leah Gedvilas (Jason), Allison and Kristin Trautner; two step greatgrandchildren; siblings Iris Mitchell, Louise Brown (Vance), Clovis Cole, and John Dickson (Peggy), and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank all at the Orchard who compassionately cared for Jean during her years there.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MS Baptist Convention Board Margaret Lackey State Mission Offering or Meadow Grove Baptist Church Building Fund (Brandon MS).
