

Miss Jean R. Pettigrew, longtime resident of Jackson, Mississippi, entered her eternal rest on January 8, 2015. Born on July 8, 1924 to Eugene Howard and Winnie Ragland Pettigrew. Jean trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young girl and was baptized at First Baptist Church of Jackson where she maintained her membership. Miss Pettigrew was the great-granddaughter of the Rev. John Lewis Pettigrew, former pastor of First Baptist Church Clinton, Mississippi.
Having attended Central High School and Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss Pettigrew retired from South Central Bell, later working with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and Travel Club International. She also served as a docent at the Governor’s Mansion.
Active in the arts community, Jean Pettigrew served on the Board of Governors for Jackson Little Theatre and as a president of Contemporary Drama Group. She not only appeared in local theatre productions and television commercials, but also in Mississippi-produced films such as “Don’t Look Back: The Story of Leroy ‘Satchel’ Paige,” “Beulah Land,” and William Faulkner’s “Barn Burning.”
Miss Pettigrew is survived by her aunt Ermyne Ragland of Augusta, GA, and her cousins Charles Bolen of Niceville, FL, Sarah Norris of Coldwater, MS, and Roland Ragland, of Fischer, TX.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 17, at the Clinton Cemetery, East College Street, Clinton, MS. Memorials may be made through the Mississippi Baptist Foundation, PO Box 530, Jackson, MS 39205.
