Born on November 29, 1939, in Laurel, Mississippi, Jerry was the son, and only child of the late Hillary Quinn Tanner and Audra Ivey Tanner (later Gartin).
Jerry dedicated much of his professional life to the family business Tanner Produce, supplying vegetables and produce to restaurants and grocery stores across Mississippi and the surrounding area. Later in life he pursued equipment sales with passion until his retirement. Jerry was the quintessential salesman and never missed the opportunity to make a sale.
Outside of work, Jerry had a deep love for the outdoors. Whether it was hunting, fishing, water skiing or simply enjoying the outdoors. However, his first love was sales. He was known for his “gift of gab”, having never met a stranger.
Jerry’s greatest legacy is his family. He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Tanner Irwin and her husband, Mike Irwin; and his son, Jerry Quinn Tanner, II. He is a proud grandfather to Olivia, Nicole Lang (Jacob), Edsel Lee Tanner, II, and William Quinn Tanner, Hannah Hodge (Steven), Zachary Irwin (deceased). He was recently blessed with a great-granddaughter, Addison Estelle Lang, who brought him great joy in his last months of life.
Jerry’s presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the stories, traditions, and love shared by all who knew him.
A private family gathering will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages friends to honor Jerry by donating to their favorite charity.
