Dr. John Benjamin Milam, 71, of Jackson, passed away Saturday December 15, 2018 at home. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday December 19, 2018 at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland preceded by visitation at 1:00pm. Burial will be in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
Dr. Milam was born in Bay Springs, MS on September 7, 1947 to John Thomas Milam and Helen graham Milam. He grew up in Cleveland, MS and graduated from the University of Mississippi where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969 majoring in math and chemistry. He graduated from the University School of Medicine with an M.D. degree in 1973. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Baptist memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN, and a residency in ophthalmology at the University of MS School of Medicine. He completed two fellowships in pediatric ophthalmology , and cornea and external diseases at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX.
Dr. Milam truly loved his patients and his patients loved him.
Dr. Milam married his wife of 48 years, Sherry Edwards of Jackson in 1970. He practiced ophthalmology in Jackson from 1980 until his retirement in January 2018. He was a member of Northminister Baptist church. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lynn Milam Granberry, and his parents, Helen and John T. Milam. Survivors include his wife, Sherry of Jackson; his daughter, Mary Amanda Milam of Jackson; his brother, James Thomas Milam of Tupelo (Nancy Brown); four nieces, two nephews, and two great nephews.
