
Johnnie Lee McLemore Davis, 84, departed this life on February 24, 2011, for eternity with her Lord and Savior. Mrs. Davis was born on August 28, 1926, to the late Moses Eugene McLemore and Mary Parilla Gilliland McLemore in Sulligent, Alabama, and later moved to Caledonia, Mississippi, for most of her youth. Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harvey Lee Davis; three daughters: Pat McMinn (John) of Madison, MS; Lynette Wilson (Bryan) of Madison, MS; and Carol Watkins (Dennis) of Cleveland, TN; five grandchildren: Bryan Wilson II (Codie) of Cleveland, TN; Brett Wilson (Courtney) of Marion, AR; and Jaclyn Watkins of New York City, NY, Jillian Watkins and Channing Watkins of Cleveland, TN. Mrs. Davis is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by the following brothers and sisters: Arthur McLemore, Willie McLemore, Otis McLemore, Janie McLemore Wakefield, Bertie McLemore Mays , and Lucy McLemore Pruitt.
Mrs. Davis had many hobbies, including cooking, sewing, crocheting and visiting with friends. She loved being a mother and participating in functions at school and church with her three daughters. Johnnie Davis was a longtime member of Southside Assembly of God Church and participated in the Women’s Missionary Group and the adult Harvesters Class.
Johnnie Davis worked in various retail establishments at different times during her life and was co-owner/manager of women’s boutique in Jackson, MS.
The family wishes to express appreciation for the loving care by Dr. Harry Fulcher and Sherrell Ivy, Dr. Beverly Fulcher, Dr. James Gordon and Brenda Mitchell, Dr. Robert Evans, Dr. Tammy Young and the staff of the Hederman Cancer Center, (all of Jackson, MS), Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland, MS, and Dr. Erich Sturgis and Staff of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. The family also wishes to express heartfelt love and gratitude to Preshery Brown, Christine Brown, Elaine Brown, Olivia Young, and Mrs. Berry for their never ending example of Christ like compassion and care.
