

Judy was born in Laurel, MS on September 20, 1944, to Maxie Belle Hart Hicks and Joseph Lee Hicks. She attended George S. Gardiner High School in Laurel and Jones County Junior College, followed by nursing school at St. Dominics Hospital in Jackson, MS.
Judy married Glenn Murphy on June 5, 1965, and together they had two children, sons Michael Scott Murphy and Jonathan Blake Murphy. She ran a daycare for over 10 years, where she provided in-house care for children ages 2 to 6, including children with special needs. She then spent the next 18 years serving as a secretary for the pediatric cardiologist group at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Judy enjoyed spending her free time volunteering in numerous areas, especially with her sons’ school, where she helped manage the concession stands for all sports and was active in the Parent Teacher Organization. During her time at UMMC, she was active in volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House.
Judy was also a proud member of the Jackson Jaycees/Jaycets and enjoyed attending church at Colonial Heights Baptist Church followed by First Baptist Church of Jackson.
Judy is survived by her husband Glenn; her son Scott, his wife Christy, and their two children Josh and Cori; her son Blake, his wife Lisa, and their daughter Meghan; her sister Kathy (Barney) Poole; and her brother Lowery Hicks. She was predeceased by her parents Maxie Belle Hart Hicks and Joseph Lee Hicks.
A visitation will be held at Parkway Funeral Home & Parkway Memorial Cemetery, located at 1161 Highland Colony Pkwy, Ridgeland, Mississippi, 39157, on January 6, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
The funeral service will follow at the same location on January 6, 2026, starting at 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Judy’s name to Community Place Nursing Home (https://community-place.org/).
